I Need a Divorce. What Do I Do Now?

Making the decision to file for a divorce or being served with a divorce petition is a life-altering experience. Wolf & Shore Law Group can guide you through this difficult process and help minimize your emotional and financial costs during separation and divorce.

Since Connecticut is a “no fault” divorce state, the grounds for divorce here are simple. It is not necessary to prove that one spouse acted inappropriately by committing adultery, mental or physical cruelty, or any other allegations that some people feel airs their “dirty laundry.” All that must be shown to a court is that there has been an “irretrievable breakdown” of the marriage and that there is no reasonable expectation of a reconciliation between spouses.

In order to file a dissolution of marriage petition in Connecticut, one must have been a resident of the state for 12 months, or lived in Connecticut at the time of the marriage, moved away and returned to Connecticut, planning to move here permanently, or the marriage broke down after one or both parties moved to Connecticut.

Although you may not be familiar with how the divorce process works, Attorney Wolf & Attorney Shore have almost 30 years of combined experience with divorce cases. Our team is available to help make sense of an otherwise potentially confusing and frustrating process.  Wolf & Shore Law Group can explain the entire process, assist with the division of assets, successfully negotiate parenting plans, and make sure you know what to expect each step of the way. We will put your needs first to help you through this difficult period. It is essentially during your divorce that you fully understand what you are entitled to and that you do not compromise your rights in the process.
