Dear Attorneys,

I just turned 19. I live with my dad and stepmother. Someone was telling me about “adult adoption.” What is that? Can my stepmother adopt me even though I am over the age of 18?

Sincerely,

Adoption Advisee

Dear Adoption,

Your stepmother may be able to adopt you even though you are an adult. Often, adult options happen in blende families (like yours), sometimes for estate planning situations, or, sometimes just because people feel as though they want to make their family bond “official.” If your biological mother is no longer alive, or her parental rights to you have been terminated, then you can likely apply in probate court to be legally adopted by your stepmother.

Wolf & Shore Law Group is here to make your adult adoption easier, not harder.  Call us if you have any questions about how to start the process, or if you have questions even after you have started.  Ever argue with a woman? Let Wolf & Shore Law Group go to work for you. Call us at 203.745.3151 or email us at info@wolfandshorelaw.com.

Very Truly Yours,
