Why Do I Have To Tell My Attorney The Truth?

Why Do I Have To Tell My Attorney The Truth?

Dear Attorneys,

I currently have an attorney helping me with my divorce. I personally like to lead a very private life, and they insist on knowing all the details. Why do I have to tell them everything? I would prefer to keep some things to myself, but they say that if I leave details out it could impact their ability to represent me. What do I do?

Dear No Details,

Our office would have to agree with your attorney – being completely honest is imperative for adequate representation. Everything you tell your attorney is confidential and will remain private, so it is always in your best interest to tell them all the details that they ask for. Omitting things or deciding to lie can negatively impact your case and attorney-client relationship. If your attorney is asking you a question, there is probably a good reason behind it.

We strongly suggest that you find an attorney you are comfortable enough to share all details of your case, financial or otherwise. If you find yourself in need of a confidential consultation please do not hesitate to contact us at 203.745.3151 or info@wolfandshorelaw.com.

Very Truly Yours,

Wolf & Shore Law Group
